ENGINE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS PART N0 6263006 CONT GENERAL INFORMATION JM 1 When installing clutch housing transmission pilot bore alignment and face runout should be checked as specified in the Chevrolet Shop Manual Also transfer inspection cover housing underpan underpan extension clutch fork boot and attaching parts from replaced engine 2 Models with optional equipment require transfer or replacement of engine parts special to such options 3 Alf any part number listed above is not shown in the master parts catalog check history section for re placing part number A 4 The intake manifold of this engine is equipped with an additional vacuum fitting for the crankcase venti lation system If desired this vacuum can be used on past models by removing the dust seal and installing comiector Part No 3859374 transferring the hose and clamp from the outboard fitting to the connector IMPORTANT If the above source of vacuum is not used plug the opening with 3 8 cup plug Part No 838323 If converting to use the added source of vacuum plug previously used opening with pipe plug Part No 44567 3 lf above is used on vehicles equipped with vacuum power brakes seal previously used source of ventilator vacuum by pinching and soldering tube to prevent leakage 5 This cylinder block assembly has a composite cylinder and case with two 2 machined oil level gauge bosses A special pin is included with this assembly for the purpose of plugging the oil level gauge tube hole not applicable to the installation V 6 When using on models equipped with Powerglide transmission it is necessary to remove the clutch pilot bushing from the crankshaft 7 This engine is equipped with an aluminum camshaft gear An undesirable noise level may develop when using the aluminum camshaft gear on passenger models It is therefore recommended that the aluminum gear be removed and replaced with the gear from the replaced engine if in usable condition or purchase new bakelite gear 3 8 When transferring front end covers and oil pan assemblies on 1967 and prior models the use of oil pan gasket unit 3930962 is required Also the four front attaching bolts can be discarded as they are not required with the use of the oil pan front seal contained in the gasket unit 3 X i GM PARTS DIVISION GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION CHEVROLET 72TM i 54
