LIVjPORTANT PARTS lll ENT FICAT ON IMAJOR COMPONENT PART NUMBER LABEL This label is attached to the sun visor and identifies the part numbers of the following major components Front and RearAxIe Radiator Steering Gear Transmission Front and Rear Hubs Front and Rear Brakes Note This information is supplied as an aid in identifying parts for service Service parts requirements for your vehicle may vary from those listed Before ordering any of the above parts have your General Motors truck dealer check your vehicle s broadcast supplement for possible part changes METRIC FASTENERS IMPORTANT Truck vehicles built since 1979 contain many parts dimensiorred in the metric system These parts are very close in dimension to familiar customary measurements in the inch system lt is important that during any vehicle maintenance procedure replacement y fasteners have the same measurements as those removed whether metric or English Mismatched or incorrect fasteners can result rn vehicle damage or malfunction or pos sibly personal injury Fastener sizes denoted on illustrations may not reflect metric dimensions However since the same vehicle may be built with metrrc or customary fasteners care should be exercised in selecting a replacement part equrvalent to the original fasteners in dimen sions strength and pitch of thread Both metrrc and customary fasteners required for replacement are listed rn tlhe Warehousing Distribution Division of General Motors Standard Parts Catalog 89 Metric fasteners are measured differently from inch fasteners The first number indi cates the diameter in millimeters The second rnumber indicates the thread pitch in mil limeters ln our English system the thread dinrensiori represents the number of threads per inch The metric number indicates how ma ny millimeters between threads GM is standardizing on only one thread pitch per diameter The last number specifies the r length in millimeters In the Parts Book the dimension shown for a fastener will be pre ceded by the letter M representing metric For an example M16 x l 5 x 55 Hex Hd
